Candy Corn Topiary

So I love holiday themed topiaries. Like, a lot. So I found some el-cheapo yarn, some foam cones and went to town.

I wrapped the yarn around to look like candy corn- it looked really cool. I felt like it was missing something so I painted a thrifted candlestick black and I made a fake finial out of crap I had lying around the house.

A little metal bottle cap, a couple of berries pulled from miscellaneous garlands and some kind of metal nut. I used a dremmel tool to make flat surfaces on the berries (only on one side of the little berry), hot glued them together and painted them black. Then I put it on top of the candy corn part. Here is what it looks like now:

I think I will find some cute black and white striped or polka-dot ribbon and add a bow around the top. Then I will make one or two more of these. Super easy and fun for Halloween!

Pink Bathroom from Greatwill Finds

So I wanted to re-do the girls' bathroom to give it a cohesive look. I had not really gone anywhere with the mint scheme that was hanging around. I have always resisted making the extra bathroom pink since this is the one that guests use. Silly. Anyway, this bathroom is mostly for the girls and I think it should be pink. First I got some clocks and painted them pink. One of them I already had, the other smaller one was a Greatwill find. I also painted some cool wooden scroll-saw cutouts (Greatwill) and this cool heart-shaped birdcage. I found two cube shelves (Greatwill) painted them black and mounted some pink scrapbook paper coated with mod-podge on the backs. Then I added mini-frames with some old and tired Wal-Mart hair bows and this is what I got:

I know it is arranged a little funkily but that is an artifact of adding/changing things up as I went along and I actually kind of like how odd it looks.

I had two round mirrored trays that I got from Greatwill about a year ago. I had them in my bathroom with delusions of grandeur thinking that they would stay pretty and that I would put a few pretty containers on them to hold my make-up brushes. Fail. They were just crap magnets. So I took them apart and painted the tired gold frames pink. I freaking love how they look now. I need to get a better pic of these, this pic does not do them justice at all. They look better reflected in the medicine cabinet of the last pic. I will get a better one and post it after the builder-grade mirror framing project.

After I broke down and purchased my long-awaited apothecary jars I found some small ones at Greatwill. Of course. Anyway, I thought I would use them in here. I painted a $.99 princess rubber duck and put her in a nest of glittered berries. She apparently lays pink jewel eggs.

I also found these ugly shower hoods at Greatwill for $.49 and I just painted them.

I have not decided quite yet where I am going with these or with the curtain itself, but this is what they look like now.

I will have to post the final shower look after I get the pink rugs and the mirror framed. The final reveal is not far away :)

Art for Pink Bathroom

I found this at a yardsale for a few bucks, thought I would see what could be done with it.

I decided that I would take it apart and try to make it work with the new pink decor in the girl's bathroom. Here is what it looked like after I farted around with it for awhile.

I am actually pretty happy with this one. Even George liked it :)
